Food Rotation

Show of hands: who here had seen the recent report about the dire poverty situation here in Israel? If you haven’t you should take a look. It’s not pretty.

Though donations are at an all time high, unfortunately the poverty level has continually increased year over year. That’s why our core mission is to end the cycle of poverty once and for all. Now, this may sound very difficult but the truth is that it’s relatively simple. In addition to providing basic necessities to families in need, charity organizations like Yad Ezra V’Shulamit should focus on helping people through education and employment. Naturally, there are disabled people that cannot work anymore, however a large portion of needy people can in fact work (and want to)!

As an organization, we have taken it upon ourselves to help alleviate some of this suffering through our job desk. But, anyone who has ever looked for a job knows that this takes time. In the meantime, we need to continue providing basic things like food and shelter to the homeless in Israel. The only problem? There are simply not enough resources.

For example, there’s often a fight over who gets to take home the leftover food here at our facility. All the families desperately need the food. The mothers call up and ask why they didn’t get the food that’s left over; their family doesn’t have enough money to buy food for their kids. Each family seems poorer than the next one. Our Children’s Center unfortunately rotates turns so every family can get as much as possible. There’s just too much demand.

We are confident that our job desk and various educational programs (including our Children’s Center) will eventually help in eliminating the poverty in Israel. But as pointed out above, this takes time. In the meantime, please consider making a donation so that we don’t need to rotate the order for families in need.
