Helping Families Through the Holiday Season

A New Year Begins
Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, is a time of new beginnings. Families gather around the holiday table, share special meals, enjoy traditional foods, and welcome the New Year with prayers for health, happiness, and blessing. It is a time to reflect on the year that has passed and look forward with hope to the year ahead.
Bringing Rosh Hashanah to Families in Need
But for thousands of families across Israel, celebrating Rosh Hashanah can be difficult when there is not enough money to put food on the table. With the support of our generous donors and dedicated volunteers, Yad Ezra V’Shulamit made sure that families in need could experience the holiday with dignity and enjoy a proper Rosh Hashanah meal with their loved ones.
62,000 food baskets were distributed across 95 locations throughout Israel for Rosh Hashanah, reaching widows, orphans, elderly individuals, Holocaust survivors, and families facing financial hardship. Each basket helped bring the holiday to a family that might otherwise have struggled to afford the food needed to celebrate.
More Than Just a Food Basket
The impact of these baskets goes far beyond the food itself. Filled with items needed for the Rosh Hashanah holiday meal, including honey, challah, chicken, fish, grape juice, and fresh produce, the baskets helped families prepare a festive meal and participate in the traditions of Rosh Hashanah without the added worry of how they would afford it. It gives families the opportunity to celebrate together and feel that they, too, are part of the joy and traditions of the holiday. The Holiday Season Continues
Rosh Hashanah may be over, but the holiday season is just beginning.
Yom Kippur is approaching, and families who struggled to prepare for Rosh Hashanah will once again need assistance. Yad Ezra V’Shulamit is working to help families prepare for Yom Kippur, providing the food they need for the meal before the fast and to break their fast afterward.
Preparing for Sukkot
Following Yom Kippur, we celebrate Sukkot, a holiday of joy and celebration. Because of the tremendous need, Yad Ezra V’Shulamit will be holding another food distribution before Sukkot, helping families prepare for the holiday and making it possible for them to celebrate with their families.
Continuing the Holiday Spirit
The holiday season is a special time to come together, and no family should feel alone or forgotten. With the support of our generous donors and dedicated volunteers, we can continue reaching families throughout Israel and help bring the joy of the holidays into their homes.
The 62,000 Rosh Hashanah baskets were an incredible start to the holiday season. As we move through Yom Kippur and Sukkot, Yad Ezra V’Shulamit continues its work to help families in need experience the holidays with dignity, warmth, and joy. Together, we are making sure that families across Israel can share in the traditions and celebrations of the season.
