Our Volunteer Network: Giving 12,000 Food Baskets Every Week

Jul 21, 2026

Every week, thousands of families across Israel receive a food basket from Yad Ezra V’Shulamit. Behind every basket is a remarkable network of people who choose to give their time, energy, and compassion to help others.

Yad Ezra V’Shulamit distributes 12,000 food baskets every week through 95 distribution locations across the country. Reaching this many families on a consistent basis takes careful planning, dedicated volunteers, and a shared commitment to making sure no family is left without food on the table.

It is an incredible effort made possible because communities throughout Israel come together with a common purpose to help their neighbors.

A Volunteer Network That Reaches Across Israel

Our volunteers are the heart of this operation. Hundreds of people from every walk of life take part in packing, organizing, and distributing food baskets each week. They include Jewish Federation trips and tour groups who want to do something meaningful and families who volunteer together, teaching the importance of kindness and responsibility through hands-on acts of giving.

Because many of our volunteers live in the communities they serve, they understand the needs of local families and bring a personal sense of care and compassion. They recognize the challenges many families face and know that each food basket they help prepare represents more than food. It represents care, hope, and the reassurance that families are not alone.

This personal connection is one of the things that makes our volunteer network so special.

More Than Food Baskets

Packing thousands of food baskets every week is a major undertaking, but our volunteers do much more than move boxes.

They help create an atmosphere of warmth and respect. Every basket is prepared carefully because every family deserves to receive support with dignity.

When volunteers deliver food within their own communities, they are not simply providing groceries. They are strengthening relationships and reminding struggling families that they are a part of a community that cares.

The kindness shown by our volunteers means just as much as the food itself. A friendly smile, a few encouraging words, and the knowledge that members of their own community care about them can make all the difference during difficult times.

Every Helping Hand Makes a Difference

While our nationwide volunteer network allows us to reach thousands of families every week, the need continues to grow. There is always room for more people who want to be part of this important mission.

Our central warehouse in Jerusalem is where many of the food baskets are packed before being distributed throughout Israel. Volunteers of all ages regularly come together to prepare thousands of baskets, creating an inspiring atmosphere of teamwork and generosity.

Whether someone can volunteer for an hour, an afternoon, or on a regular basis, every contribution helps another family receive the support they need.
