Helping Families Celebrate Pesach Despite the Challenges of War
Mar 15, 2026
When war disrupts daily life, the effects are felt far beyond the sirens and the shelters. For many working families across Israel, the economic impact arrives quietly at the end of the month in the form of a smaller paycheck.
Life Under Wartime Restrictions
During periods of heightened security, Israel operates under strict safety guidelines. Schools are closed, public gatherings are limited, and some workplaces must temporarily shut down, allow employees to work from home, or reduce the number of people who can come in so that everyone can remain close to protected shelters. While these measures help keep families safe, they also mean that many workers lose valuable days of income.
When a Paycheck Becomes Uncertain
For many workers, this means their next paycheck will be only partial. Countless hard-working men and women across Israel have missed work because of the security restrictions put in place for everyone’s safety. For Israel’s working class, that reduction can make an already tight household budget nearly impossible to manage.
And with Pesach approaching, the financial pressure becomes even more intense.
Pesach Approaches as Expenses Rise
Preparing for the holiday requires purchasing foods that many families cannot simply substitute or delay, like matzah, chicken, grape juice, fruits and vegetables for the Seder table. Even households that normally manage to get by may suddenly find themselves struggling to afford the basics needed to celebrate the holiday.
Over the past several weeks, we have seen this reality firsthand. Requests for Pesach food baskets have already begun arriving earlier than usual, and the number continues to grow every day. Many of these requests are coming from families who have never needed assistance before, parents who work hard year-round but are now facing unexpected financial strain because of the war.
Parents are doing everything they can to protect their children from worry, trying to maintain a sense of normalcy during uncertain times. But behind the scenes, many are quietly wondering how they will put food on the table for the holiday.
Standing Together to Help Families Celebrate
This is exactly why our Pesach food distribution is so important.
Each food basket provides the essentials families need to prepare for the Seder and the days of the holiday. It means that despite the uncertainty outside, families can gather together, share a meal, and celebrate the traditions that connect generations.
For many households, receiving that basket is not just about food. It is about dignity, relief, and the reassurance that they are not alone during a difficult time.
The strength of the Jewish people has always come from standing together. Especially now, when so many families are facing reduced incomes and rising expenses, helping one another becomes even more meaningful.
Our goal this year is simple: to ensure that every family who reaches out for help can celebrate Pesach with the essentials they need.
With the support of our donors, we can fill more baskets, reach more homes, and bring comfort to families who are doing their best to navigate the challenges of wartime life.
As Pesach approaches, we hope that every family in Israel will be able to sit down at the Seder table with food, dignity, and hope for brighter days ahead.
Chag Kasher V’Sameach.
