Courage on the Road: Truck Driver Faces Missile Strike While Delivering Aid to People in Need

More than a year after the unimaginable attacks of October 7th, we continue to hear heroic stories of Israeli soldiers and civilians risking their lives to help others in need. These stories spark hope within us and remind us of the strength, resilience, and courage that define the Jewish people. In recent weeks, Yaakov, a Yad Ezra V’Shulamit truck driver, recently experienced an attack while driving on the roads of northern Israel to deliver food and supplies to vulnerable communities.

Yaakov’s Story

Yaakov was on his way to Tzfat, carrying essential food baskets for 200 families who were eagerly awaiting urgent support. Suddenly, a barrage of missiles was launched toward the area he was driving through. With a siren blaring, Yaakov’s first instinct was to find shelter by the roadside and lay flat on the ground, with his hands over his head. Meanwhile, the sky above him lit up as the Iron Dome intercepted missiles.

Yaakov recounted, “I heard the sirens, got out of the truck, laid on the ground with my hands over my head, and prayed. It was terrifying. I heard the missiles and saw the Iron Dome intercept them. I’ve never felt so exposed and vulnerable in my life! But what can I do? So many people are waiting to get their food baskets in the north…”.

Protecting Our Heroes

This incident is one example of the increasing dangers faced by our drivers as they transport aid to affected areas in the north. Like Yaakov, these drivers are true heroes and unseen fighters on the front lines. They take courageous steps to ensure that no family goes hungry, even in the most dangerous of circumstances.

As threats continue to escalate, Yad Ezra V’Shulamit is committed to ensuring the safety of our drivers, who risk everything in their efforts to deliver aid. There is an urgent need to provide each driver with a bulletproof vest and helmet. With 25 drivers in need of this essential safety gear, and each set costing $1,550, Yad Ezra V’Shulamit is facing a significant financial challenge—a total of $38,750 is needed to supply our brave drivers sufficiently.
