Giving the Gift of a Wedding Celebration for Couples in Need

May 28, 2024

Weddings are a meaningful celebration full of joy, love and community. It marks the beginning of a couple’s journey together filled with hope and happiness. However, for many Jewish couples, the cost of a wedding can place a difficult burden and unnecessary stress on what should otherwise be a special beginning to their life together. At Yad Ezra V’Shulamit, we believe that every couple should be able to celebrate their marriage without financial worries.

In Jewish tradition, there is a beautiful saying - "Take care of mine and I will take care of yours". When we extend a helping hand to others in need, a blessing is often returned to us. This saying is a central part of our Yad Ezra V’Shulamit’s wedding support initiative, which is specifically directed towards orphans and financially disadvantaged couples in Israel who dream of having a wedding but face unfortunate financial difficulties.

Yad Ezra V’Shulamit is committed to our tradition of extending support to those in need. When you sponsor a wedding for a needy couple or an orphan on your own wedding day or on another meaningful date, you take part in a cycle of blessings that enriches your own celebration as you share it with others. It is a simple yet powerful concept: an act of charity, or tzedakah, offers more than just financial help; it raises spirits, on an emotional and spiritual level, and it makes sure that your own special day is connected to a greater cause.

Each year, Yad Ezra V’Shulamit facilitates over 300 weddings. Each wedding stands as testimony to the resilience and power of Jewish community and the support that is being provided as these couples start a new life together. We manage wedding halls In the holy cities of Jerusalem and Tzfat, where many blessed events happen daily. These venues offer a location where couples facing financial difficulties, can celebrate their dream wedding, complete from beautiful hall decorations to catering services.

The story of Chana and Dovid is an example of a couple whose wedding plans were almost disrupted by financial burdens following an unfortunate family tragedy. The Yad Ezra V’Shulamit’s community quickly stepped in to sponsor their wedding and made sure that their special day was as meaningful and beautiful as they deserved. This act of generosity extended far beyond its material offerings – it restored hope and dignity to a couple that needed community support. When we extend help to others, we offer emotional support during this time of difficulty.

You can join this beautiful tradition, by helping us sponsor a wedding for a couple or orphan in need. Whether you are honoring someone special, or celebrating your own wedding, your contribution can make a significant difference in someone’s life. For the average cost of flowers at an American wedding, your generous donation can help fund an entire wedding in Israel, and help these couples start their life together on the right foot.

Let’s come together as a loving community during these difficult times and bring some simcha and love to someone’s special day. We, as a community, have the power to make dreams happen and to spread light in this world.
