Who is feeding poor children now that the Children’s Centers in Israel are closed?
May 21, 2020
Due to the pandemic (Covid 19) people’s lives have been under pressure worldwide. People everywhere are grappling with anxiety, depression, instability and no money. For poor children in Israel, the situation is one in dire straits. With families under lockdown and our Children’s Centers closed due to government regulations, the 500 plus children who came for daily food and emotional welfare are left at home. Often, for children living in poverty their homes are small, dark, cramped, and void of anything to eat let alone anything to do.
WHERE ARE THESE CHILDREN LEFT TO TURN?
Yad Ezra V’Shulamit couldn’t leave them vulnerable at home. We changed our organization in order to came to them! We are a charity that continues to adapt to the times and step up in crisis situations. We took it upon ourselves to ensure every child gets fed each day along with their family. Every day a hot lunch is hand delivered to their apartment by a volunteer. We didn’t stop with just a hot lunch either. We surprised the children with activities and toys to keep them busy too. In addition to all of this, the families receive a 400 NIS voucher per week for a local store to enable the whole family to live better during these tough times.
With the unemployment rate reaching well above 30 percent – even those families that were once working, are now left without a job and unable to provide. The vouchers are a welcome help to all those who need and cannot provide for themselves. We have taken this all upon ourselves, but we can’t do it without your support. We know it might not be easy for everyone right now, but in times like this it takes everybody to help these poor children. Donate now so we can keep delivering food directly to the children and families that need it most.
