A few weeks ago, we wrote about coming to volunteer at Yad Ezra V’Shulamit’s warehouse. We absolutely love it when donors and potential donors stop by to see our hard work. It is not only a positive experience but you personally see how the organization operates. This generally helps people create something much more meaningful in their lives. However, another way that volunteering can help you is with your career. Here are five ways volunteering for charity can help in this area:

Leadership, Team Work & Other Skills

Everyone knows that one of the primary questions in a job interview is: ‘how are your leadership, team and interpersonal skills?’ Volunteering at a warehouse like ours will help build all of these important qualities that employers look for. Packaging food requires teamwork, leadership and countless other skills necessary for the real world.

Proactive & Motivated

By volunteering for a charity organization like ours in Israel, it demonstrates to potential employers that you are not only proactive, but motivated. Volunteering shows employers that your personal values and interests are important to you, and this is a quality that every employer looks for.

Should you volunteer for charity, it shows your commitment to a job. Volunteering is optional. Thus, employers understand that you are committed to something even though you don’t have to be. The longer you volunteer for the better it will be for you. Showing commitment in volunteering for several months says a great deal about you.

Understanding & Open Minded

Many parents who send their children to private schools are often worried about them in the future. This is because their children are sheltered in these schools and exposed to other children like them. But, what happens when they enter the real world and need to conduct themselves properly in a business setting? They have never been exposed to other people not like them for long periods of time! Well, volunteering can eliminate this potential problem, as is will give you experience working with a wide range of people.

Improve Self Confidence

Make no mistake about it: volunteering will improve your self-confidence. You will be helping people in need and doing something for the betterment of society. Furthermore, it may also push you out of your comfort zone and require you to adapt accordingly. This is a crucial skill you will likely need for your career.

So what are you waiting for? If you are in Israel, come volunteer at our warehouse. It’s not only a fun and positive experience, but it will likely help you in the long run.
