YES

Of all of the children at our Children’s Center, it is impossible for us to simply focus on one and shed light on this child’s current situation. Like everyone, all children are equal. However, the media does a good job of being able to focus on one specific case. Though we don’t necessarily agree with this (since every hungry child should have their story shown), the media is good at what they do, whether we like it or not.

The Israeli media recently published a shocking video that shows the story of an eight year old Jerusalem school girl who goes to bed hungry at night. Her mother can’t afford to buy bread for her children and they go to school without lunch. Yes, this is happening in the middle of Jerusalem – a bustling town full of business and life, with plenty of food to see on the outside. But on the other side, this girl, one child out of thousands, doesn’t have basic food to eat — literally.

At Yad Ezra V’Shulamit, we provide this girl with a hot lunch every day after school, homework help, and food to take home. She says that she has more fun being at our after school day program than at home because here, “we have something to play with and something to eat.”

All throughout Israel, Yad Ezra V’Shulamit distributes thousands of food baskets every week to needy families, including orphans and widows. We operate after school children’s centers which provide a hot meal, a warm environment, and homework help to hungry children, and job finding consultants for adults to help break the cycle of poverty at its source.
