As you are most likely aware, Israel is in the midst of what many consider to be the Third Intifada. In fact, we wrote about the start of this Intifada several weeks ago. However, this one is a semi-unusual one. The Second Intifada was carried out by organized terror groups such as Hamas and the armed wing of Fatah. This gave them the ability to carry out brutal attacks in a fairly effective manner. This Intifada, however, has a new face: the “lone wolf” face. We are now seeing private Palestinian civilians, with no known connections to organized terror organizations, commit barbaric stabbing attacks on many innocent civilians.

Due to these types of attacks, the global media has wondered: how long can this last for? In fact, even many Israelis have “prophesized” that this won’t last more than a month or so. And yet – here we are, unfortunately with no end in sight. The attacks keep on coming from these lone wolves. Thus, you have Israelis on a daily basis asking: when will it end?

Though the situations are clearly different, the same can regrettably be said about poverty. While the attacks since the founding of the State of Israel have been “on and off,” poverty has been consistent. Yes – these are some of the key differences. However, people have been asking for years: when will (poverty) end?

Many people have therefore joined together to donate to charity in order to help rid the world of this “brutal assault” on innocent people. However, sadly, the majority of their efforts go to the wrong places. At Yad Ezra V’Shulamit, we address the root of the problem: education. It is true that we provide hot meals for instant relief. However, we have various ongoing educational initiatives that help the needy go out, get jobs and provide for their families. We believe that properly educating underprivileged individuals will completely eradicate poverty.

Help us educate the children and families under our care so we can break the cycle of poverty once and for all.
