Mid-life crisis. It’s the two words we have become all too accustomed to hearing. The most notable symptoms of a mid-life crisis are anxiety and fear. Unfortunately, these signs largely affect every aspect of a person’s life – physical and psychological. Anyone who goes through it experiences it on a different level than someone else, however when it happens, you know it is happening. A mid-life crisis takes place during our late 30s to mid-40s; hence the term “mid-life.” However, like almost everything in life, there are exceptions to the rule.

Did you know that children can experience the above symptoms? Needless to say, doctors wouldn’t label it as a “mid-life crisis.” Yet, they are still devastating issues that need to be dealt with. Children commonly experience anxiety and fear when their foundations surrounding them aren’t strong. Such is the case with Naama, a six year old girl, who is under our care.

Naama was diagnosed with the above symptoms – anxiety and fear. This caused her many difficulties, which interfered with her basic functioning. Fortunately for her and her parents, Israel offers medical evaluation under socialist terms. Getting a proper evaluation from certified therapists is just a few dollars out of pocket. However, the therapists felt that the girl was in urgent need of music therapy in order to release her from her anxieties. This therapy could cost hundreds of dollars per month. Needless to say, the parents couldn’t afford this and thus turned to Yad Ezra V’Shulamit for immediate assistance.

Yad Ezra V’Shulamit Children’s Center took care of a suitable treatment for her, and today, after eight (8) months of therapy, Naama’s mother reports a significant improvement in her condition. She says that Naama “agrees to go downstairs alone, go to friends, and she doesn’t cry anymore when I don’t give her my hand.” Naama continues to receive music therapy sessions, as we discovered that this is the best way to help and heal her.
