In today’s world, we are all accustomed to seeing cruel things around us. Negative press seems to be shining day in and day out. Perhaps that is why when a positive story emerges, it receives a lot of popularity, specifically in the form of social media shares. To be fair, the many good people of this world are fighting back against the media and are constantly sharing positive news and stories from their circles. Here at Yad Ezra V’Shulamit, we are no different. In fact, we thoroughly enjoy sharing uplifting news. This is one of the reasons why we created this weekly “Success” column. So without further ado, here is our weekly success story.

Some time ago, we were approached by a fragile but special woman named Liat. Though Liat moves around in a wheelchair, she told us of a time when she was healthy. While she remembers that era of her life, Liat is truly an exceptional woman – always looking forward (never backwards) and also at the positive side of life. Nevertheless, and though it was a difficult question to ask, we wanted to understand what happened to her. Perhaps there was something we could help with in this regard. So, she gave us a short summary of how things, in a instance, took a turn for the worse.

One day, as Liat crossed the pedestrian crossing on green, a car sped through the intersection and slammed into her. She was thrown twenty feet in the air and on to a rock. She awoke three weeks later in the hospital with doctors telling her it was a miracle she opened her eyes again. However, they also informed her that she would remain cripple for the rest of her life. Sadly, she couldn’t feel her legs and lost her ability to walk. Incredibly, for as hard as that was to hear, she was happy to be alive, especially because she had two young children at home – ages six and four named Roi and Hadas.

Needless to say, she now needs more help than ever. She can barely move around, and she definitely cannot work a full time job. Thus, she turned to Yad Ezra V’Shulamit to help care for her children. We quickly sprang into action and took them under our wings. This made a significant impact in their lives, largely because it helped them get over the trauma.

While this case is especially unique because it involves an automobile accident, the underlying theme of families in need is unfortunately commonplace for us. Please consider making a donation so we can continue helping people like Liat and her children.
