The Talmud tells us that the world rests on three things: Torah, Avodah, and Gemilut Chasadim: Torah, work and acts of loving kindness. Volunteering is at the core of our value system. It impacts both the giver and the receiver in many ways. Choosing Yad Ezra V’Shulamit as an organization in which to volunteer your time, adds special significance to a trip to Israel and helps alleviate the hunger pains of Israel’s most vulnerable in a very REAL, direct way. Volunteers give to Israel’s poor by packing food baskets for Yad Ezra V’Shulamit, alleviating the tremendous amount of work involved in the daily operation of food distribution.
One of our donors, Ruti Eastman, chose to volunteer at Yad Ezra V’Shulamit because, “Yad Ezra v’Shulamit fulfills many of the things that matter most to us; feeding the poor, helping to educate children and assisting people to find employment — all while making sure a very high percentage of money raised goes directly to helping the poor rather than administrative costs. Donating money is a good thing — but nothing makes me feel more like I’m part of the solution than helping with my hands. I like to see “on the ground” how my tzedaka investment is working. Volunteering is something I can do for myself. I am part of the army of Hashem, putting “my boots on the ground,” rather than standing on the sidelines and letting others do the hard work. I become part of my people, rather than a bystander. I recommend this feeling to everyone!”
Every day, Yad Ezra V’ Shulamit is working hard to fight the pains of hunger in Israel. Our volunteers are the lifeline to the success of our food basket distribution project.
You are cordially invited to see a world that exists behind the scenes here in Israel. A world which provides a glimmer of hope for impoverished families.
Help pack food baskets at Yad Ezra V’Shulamit. Volunteers are urgently needed weekly to pack over 3,000 food baskets. Our warehouse is located in Jerusalem and our volunteer packing hours are Wednesdays from 10:00am-2:00pm (other days and times available upon request).
