As we approach the Jewish New Year, Jews all over the world are making the proper preparations for this exciting time. Families are planning trips to see distant relatives. New clothing is no doubt being purchased. People have already started to buy their food. In fact, many people already have their menus picked out for the two day event. While this may seem very materialistic in nature, the truth is that many good hearted people tend to operate outside of the material world by donating to the needy during this time of year.

Rosh Hashanah, which is the Hebrew name for the Jewish New Year, is largely recognized as a time of giving and helping the underprivileged. Unfortunately, many people in Israel are in dire need of help. Forget about preparing a menu in advance or even new clothing – these people do not have the luxury of being able to buy the basic food necessities for a proper Rosh Hashanah meal!

Naturally, thousands have turned to Yad Ezra V’Shulamit for assistance. While poverty is extremely emotional to see on any level, it breaks our heart even more when we see children go hungry. A large portion of the people in need happen to be children. To make matters worse, we have seen a sizable increase in the amount of requests for food baskets this New Year. To date, we have over 17,000 food basket requests!

Thankfully, some of our donors have already come to aid us in helping these people in need. However, 17,000 food baskets is a new record for us. Please consider donating today so we can afford every family and child a proper meal this Rosh Hashanah.

As our viral video declares, “hand in hand, we all can try, to build a world where children don’t cry.” Let us not forget that every child belongs to us all. Happy holidays to everyone out there!
