Day camps are all about fun activities and educational opportunities that can't be found in traditional schools. Whether your child is shy or has trouble following directions, a day at a day camp will help them socialize and learn in an environment tailored to their needs.

But what about the underprivileged children? Not every family in Israel can afford to send their kids to a traditional summer camp.

At Yad Ezra V'Shulamit, we've arranged for day-camp opportunities for the poverty-stricken children in Israel. Our target is to minimize the opportunity gap between rich and poor children and ensure that the latter group experiences privileges they may not receive at home.

Let's see how our day camping events are helping disadvantaged children:

Improves Cognitive and Social Skills

Day camp is an excellent way for children from underprivileged backgrounds to get a break from their routine and enjoy some fun and enrichment. Not only do they get to learn new things, but they also develop necessary social and teamwork skills.
Campers learn how to interact with others in a positive way, which helps them develop better relationships. The cooperating environment improves children's cognitive abilities and emotional well-being. They get an opportunity to feel good about themselves, which can boost their self-esteem.

Grows a Sense of Community

A day camp offers a collective responsibility that can benefit impoverished children. Everyone at the camp is grouped into teams and must work together as a joint unit. Teamwork promotes empathy and understanding, which is critical in helping these kids develop good social habits.
Also, day camp provides a sense of community that gives these kids the feeling that they're not alone in their struggles. They learn how to share and compromise, essential for developing solid relationships later in life.

Makes Children Self-dependent

A day camp teaches children how to solve problems and deal with difficult situations. It helps them develop resilience and independence, preparing them for challenges later in life.
It also teaches them how to manage their emotions in different social contexts, which can be helpful when they start school or enter adulthood.

Limits Exposure to Negative Experiences

By attending a day camp, poverty-stricken children can escape the negative impacts of poverty and build positive relationships that will last into adulthood.
Poverty is a very isolating experience. It can limit children's opportunities to develop positive relationships, which can have long-term implications for their development.
Overall, a day camp provides a unique opportunity for impoverished children to gain much-needed social and emotional stability.

A Daycare Alternative

An 8-year-old girl at our Children's Center has to supervise her younger brother. One time when they were playing outside, her brother was about to be run over by a car. Unfortunaly, their mother cannot care for them because of depression and other mental illnesses.
Daycare is expensive and may not be affordable for all families. Poverty-stricken children have limited access to quality daycare, which can lead to emotional and social problems for the child.
Our free day-camping often offers similar services without costing anything to the parents. It provides a safe and fun environment where the child can learn and play without feeling stressed or uncomfortable. They also get breakfast and lunch and enjoy swimming, crafting, and special outings.
Also, we've arranged for more supervised hours after hearing about the traumatic experience of that little girl. We also support and care for her mother and many other parents like her.
Please, check our Children's Center activities and donate to improve these poor children's lives.
