Last week, Yad Ezra V’Shulamit sent 100 tons of food to Israelis in the South who are hiding in bomb shelters and unable to get out to do mundane tasks like supermarket shopping.
Once Hamas began launching rockets at Israel two weeks ago, Yad Ezra V’Shulamit immediately galvanized its staff, resources and supplies in preparation for sending the trucks of food down South.
Unfortunately, this is not the first time that YES has had to act in the face of crisis. During the 2006 Lebanon War, when rockets rained down on Northern Israel, Yad Ezra V’Shulamit sent 80 tons of food, water and groceries to the panic-stricken residents. In 2007, when Hamas attacked Sderot, YES sent over five tons of fresh food and produce as well as 65 cartons of chickens to the city’s residents. In 2009, during Operation Cast Lead, Southern cities were once again under attack. YES sent 25 tons of food each week for five consecutive weeks to families who were trapped in bomb shelters and had no access to food.
Last week, YES once again sent trucks loaded with 100 tons of food to the residents of the South, free of charge. (When they were there, a siren went off, signalling an incoming rocket, but our staff and volunteers persevered until they completed their mission of distributing the food.)
The goal of delivering food is twofold: to provide the residents with the physical sustenance they need, and to show them that they are not alone – the people of Israel stand with them during this time of crisis.
Show them that you care as well. Donate to the war relief efforts of Yad Ezra V’Shulamit and stand with the people of the South.
